In addition to designing and building aircraft, George Yates was also Bernard Airport's first instructor. One student taught by Yates was Morrie Gilbert, right, a Portland business man. Yates was issued pilot license #549 in 1930. The license was signed by Orville Wright. The airplane was the "Stiper" which had an inverted Martin engine.
